Freddie is first and foremost a companion dog. When we first got him we never thought that we would participate in any of the activities that we are now so fond of! From the start, Freddie showed off his nose and talent in blood tracking, even at the young age of 4 months.
Freddie's first time out on an artificial blood trail

In the coming months, we started obedience training with him at our local dog school. Our friend Salla first informed us of the Hochrhein Dachshund club (in the DTK) and their Sunday training sessions as well as their BHP training sessions. Since what we were already doing in class sounded very similar, we thought that we could give it a try. Through BDC-Hochrhein we met a lot of wonderful people who all shared the commonality of loving their dogs. Soon we were known as the people with "the brown dackel." Trainings were going well and we were starting to meld into the new world of dachshunds.

As Freddie grew, we noticed that he was going to be a big boy. At the age of 15 months he was just at the 9.9kg maximum imposed by the DTK. At his first club Zuchtschau in July 2011 he was awarded an Excellent (V) rating. Later that same month we traveled to Croatia with Markku, Salla, and 3 of their dogs to soak in the sun, do some sight seeing, and participate in the 4 Summer Nights Shows in Split. Even though the weather was a bit unpredictable, we managed to have a great time! While at the shows, Freddie received not only a"V" rating, but was awarded Junior BOB making him Junior Winner HR 2011! It was an exciting night for both Simon and I!!
Yay team!

Walking in the big ring

Freddie is a very passionate hunter. He'll chase hares in the field just as readily as going into a fox hole (real or artificial) or go blood tracking in the woods. He is a very versatile dog and a pleasure to work with. He and Simon are a fantastic team and I can't wait to see what they do in the future.

HASE! I managed to catch a picture of this hare while I was waiting with Baxter for the group to finish the field.
